But where, after all, would be the poetry of the sea were there no wild waves?

Our home afloat

Amae is a 35-foot Hallberg-Rassy 352. Built in 1985, she spent her first nine years in Switzerland on Lake Murten. Amae's owners took her to Marseille in 1994 and sailed the Mediterranean to Greece, cruising mainly the Turkish coast and the Dodecanese islands. Amae has been exceptionally well maintained with many custom details and we try to keep her as beautiful as she is - but it's a lot of work. The longer keel is made for a nice passage even in rougher weather - mooring astern is not a breeze (if anyone has tips on how to do this, please let us know 😊).

The days pass happily with me wherever my ship sails.

Sailing vessel Amae

Why did we name her Amae? According to Japanese psychoanalyst Takeo Doi, «amae» is the feeling of pleasurable dependence. Or in other words: It’s about being in harmony with others and being able to depend on them. Doi holds up that amae is the secret ingredient of a good relationship.

We hope to have a pinch of amae on our journey! 🤗

How did it go so far? We wrote some blog posts for you.

Equipment

Some people can hardly imagine what it is like to live on a sailboat. Well, it's a bit like living on a caravan. The waves add some fun to doing anything below deck – making every task underway a bit more challenging. We have a lovely cabin in the aft of the boat, a seaworthy galley with a 3-burner gas stove and a 70l fridge. In the front of the boat is a small cabin and a toilet.

We currently have the following equipment on board:

Power

  • 400Ah Winston LiFePEO4 Cells

  • 1 starter battery 105Ah

  • 400W Solbian Solar panels

  • 100Ah Balmar alternator
