The journey

Our voyage into the unknown started in April 2021 in Leros aboard Amae (check her out).

We sailed westwards: passed the Ionian Sea, on towards Sicily and Sardinia and the Balearic Islands, the mainland of Spain to the Strait of Gibraltar off to the Atlantic Ocean (take a look at our pictures from the Med). We reached the Canary Islands in November and crossed the Atlantic in December, to finally arrive in Martinique on 5 January 2022. Until November we cruised in the West Indies. On December 5, 2022, we arrived on a new continent: South America!

We stayed in Colombia for 2 months and left Cartagena at 5am on the 4th of February 2023, with a beautiful full moon shining down on the city. After two weeks in the San Blas Islands (Panama), we moored Amae in the famous Shelter Bay Marina, just outside the Panama Canal. We prepared the boat for her next big ocean: The Pacific. Three weeks later we crossed the Panama Canal with my brother Nicolas and his family Anouk and Vigo. A once-in-a-lifetime experience. On the 28th of March, we set sail for the Marquesas. 4,300 nautical miles and 36 days later, we pulled into the most beautiful bay we'd ever seen: Hanavave, Fatu Hiva.

From there we sailed around the Marquesas, the Tuamotus, the Society Islands, Suwarrow (Cook Islands) and Tonga. Our last big passage will be in October: From Tonga to New Zealand.

How it started?

2016. We were sitting at the kitchen table in our apartment in the old town of Bern, talking about our dream of exploring the world on a sailboat. Good friends of ours were considering selling their sailboat. In the end, they didn't - but that was the day the dream began to stir in us. And a few weeks later we made the decision: let's sail the world!

That same year, we attended theoretical courses to learn more about terrestrial navigation, seamanship, meteorology, terminology, regulations and emergencies on board.

The following spring, we learned to sail small sailboats and motorboats on the lake. This was followed by several training trips on various sailboats in the Mediterranean, the Irish and Celtic Seas, and the French Atlantic coast. Meanwhile we moved out of our apartment in the city to save money. In 2018, we got our "Certificate of Competence for Ocean Yachting", bought our boat and were officially ready to go! Five years later, in June 2021, we cast off the lines and hoist the sails.
